• If you are not happy doing physical work or working in extreme temperatures and sometimes uncomfortable weather conditions  (July-August and January-March) then please do not apply. You must be serious about helping our animals and working hard.
• New volunteers must be 20 years or older.
  For veterinary students, the minimum age is 18 years.
• You need to be in an excellent health condition and you must have your own insurance policy.
  (For your own sake and for the sake of our donkeys please note that we do not accept applications from volunteers or students who are pregnant or suffer from severe mental or physical problems like back problems, rheumatism, arthritis, asthma, allergies towards dust, etc)
  

• The daily routine involves a lot of ‘picking up poop’ after the donkeys so be prepared for this. Two donkeys could fill a wheelbarrow with poop in a 24 hour period. If only their aim were that good!
• Volunteers must arrange their own accommodation. There is limited accommodation within walking distance of CDR. It is not possible to walk to us from Liapades or Paleokastritsa or anywhere further away. If unsure, please check the distance using Google maps.
• Volunteers must arrange their own transport to and from the shelter. We CANNOT bring you and take you home.
• The summers in Corfu are hot and humid and the winters wet and cold. Again, be prepared for this.
• The minimum stay is two weeks.
• Great compassion for animals and the wish to help the old and abandoned is a must!
• Please note, we can only accept volunteers and students who can speak and have a good understanding of the English language.

Definitely, there are plenty more accommodations in a 4-8km radius from the shelter. You might book wherever seems more appropriate to you, having in mind an additional cost of a scooter or a bicycle.

Most of our volunteers rent scooters during their stay. The prices for a scooter are approximately 7-15 Euros a day depending on the bike and the length of hire. You need a driver’s license to rent a scooter. The scooter allows you to explore the island on your days off and get to the beaches and local resorts at the end of the day.

To rent a scooter or a bicycle, you may contact D&M Moto Rental in Dassia.
Also, you can rent a bicycle in Liapades, at Nadia's bike rental.

To go from Doukades to Corfu Town or to Paleokastritsa you can also use the green bus.

We suggest our volunteers, to take a taxi from the airport to the accommodation they have booked, at least upon arrival.

Taxis are widely available at the taxi rank directly outside the arrivals area.
